This is a weird time for sure. As I type this, I am sitting in an empty church building. At this moment I am filled with all sorts of emotions. Thoughtful and a bit sorrowful for all those affected by this crisis, yet eager for what the Lord has ahead of us at FBC Woodbridge.
To be perfectly honest, there is also always a bit of fear looking ahead when God is bringing about change in our lives. Most likely, you are feeling the same emotions I am as well. Sadness, anxiousness, fear, but at the same time a sense of excitement for what God has in store for FBCW as a faith family in the time ahead. There are so many gospel opportunities for us right now and in the future. We find ourselves right smack dab in the middle of lots of change. There is no way around it.
There is a truth for us to remember in times like this. The Bible tells us that our God never changes. “For I the Lord, do not change; therefore you O children of Jacob, are not consumed. (Malachi 3:6) . What an incredible reminder and thought. The same God who created the universe, the planets, and all of creation is always the same. He is still abounding in love, mercy, grace, and perfectly aware of what His children need. He never changes and therefore His promises to us in times of transition never change. We hold on to these with great confidence.
- HE WILL NEVER LEAVE US. (Matthew 28:20, Isaiah 41:10) - HE WILL FINISH WHAT HE STARTED. (Philippians 1:6) - HE WILL GIVE US WHAT WE NEED. (Philippians 4:19)
I know that what lies ahead is a whole lot of disciple-making and lives being changed by the glorious goodness of the truth of Jesus Christ. We are surrounded by a community that desperately needs to know this. God is going to use us to show it. He will not change. Take confidence that God is our anchor and steadfast rock.
See you soon.
